During Life's transitions, we often struggle with mixed feelings as we go through changes. We then take the bits and pieces of our daily lives and situations, and "weave" them together to create a new form....This is my Lifeweavings #1 (2006)~~showing the Stages of Life I'd lived up to that point~~from infancy (light blue) to middle-age (purple).
This series, "Transitions", was inspired by a library book I found browsing the stacks..."A Walk on the Beach" by Joan Anderson. In it she tells the story of how she met Joan Erikson, author & artist, one day strolling along the sandy surf! Together they created colorful weavings as they talked about life and its many changes...
I used a piecing method to create the woven-effect of the design, using wonderfully colored rayon threads to add the quilting lines and stitch the top, cotton batting and backing fabrics together. This provided additional depth, detail, and texture to the art!
A hanging sleeve is added to the back of this piece for displaying. As a Free Bonus gift, a small slat with two holes is included (Can be hung with 2 pins or small nails~not included). Other options for displaying textiles pieces include shadow box frames or mounting on canvas. Professional framers, experienced with preserving and displaying textiles, can be helpful with these and other ideas.
Add this colorful art to your collection as a reminder to continue to create your unique "Lifeweaving"!
